Speaker 2:Welcome to Mighty Moment, where it only takes a moment to have a mighty encounter with God. Our speaker, dr Bobby J Bowles, is guiding us on a transformative exploration of the scriptures from Genesis to Revelation as he brings to life the incredible and fascinating stories of the Bible. We pray that you are encouraged and spiritually strengthened, so let's turn our hearts and minds to the Word as we prepare for today's journey of discovery. Here's Dr Bobby with today's Mighty Moment.
Speaker 3:God's Everlasting Love. In this episode of Mighty Moment, we continue our month-long excursion looking at the best of the best scriptures from the Bible. These are splendid passages that you'll want to take note of and remember. These are 88 passages from the Bible that are special to me, my favorite 101 verses. The total list of verses is not ranked in any order, but verses covered in each episode are united by a common spiritual theme. Each verse is worth noting on its own, though. Reach out to Mighty Moment if you'd like a copy of my best of the best list.
Speaker 3:In this episode we look at two passages from the book of Romans that describe a love that is both infinitely patient and fiercely protective. The Apostle Paul paints a picture of God's love that is at once shocking and comforting. In Romans 5.8, we will see love demonstrated at the cross, given to us when we least deserved it, and in Romans 8, 38, and 39, we'll be assured that no force in the universe can separate us from this love. What we learn will show us that we can rest in the security and wonder of God's grace. Number 68 on our list is Romans 5, verse 8. Unconditional love, god's love, finds us at our lowest point. Reading from the New King James Version. The verse reads but God demonstrates His own love toward us in that, while we were still sinners, christ died for us. The New International Version reads but God demonstrates His own love for us in this While we were still sinners, christ died for us, and the Good News Bible reads but God has shown us how much he loves us. It was while we were still sinners that Christ died for us. The Passion Translation reads but Christ proved God's passionate love for us by dying in our place while we were still lost and ungodly. The Message Version reads and lastly, in the Amplified Bible version but God clearly shows and proves His own love for us by the fact that, while we were still sinners, christ died for us.
Speaker 3:God does not force His creation. The crowning point of humanity is His gift of free will to us. Dangerous, indeed, in that we could choose contrary to what is best for us, as demonstrated with Adam and Eve. But God still gave us free will, because without it we do not have the ability to love or worship. So God sent His Son and implemented the plan of salvation without any guarantee that we would accept the gift, but it was so important he did it anyway. If I were God I'm sure you're glad that I'm not I would have wanted guarantees before putting it all on the line. Not God. He was willing to die for the opportunity that we could be saved. We could use free will and reject that invitation, reject His gift Truly.
Speaker 3:The verse hits the nail on the head as it shows God's true motivation love and a passion to redeem the lost. I also like the verse's personal dynamic. It refers to God's love as His own love. It is this personal dynamic that is even more impressive. You see, he knows how sinful we are. He knows how dirty with sin we are, how messed up in all the baggage we carry and all the guilt, and yet he still did it. God saved us when we were at our ugliest so we can have the opportunity to be our best in His grace. What does he ask of us in return? To say yes and to choose a better way to allow Him to help us and restore us and make us better.
Speaker 3:Paul's language in Romans 5.8 is deliberate and rich with meaning. The Greek verb used here for demonstrates, sun-istason means to show, prove or establish by action. God's love is not just a feeling or a statement. It is verified and made visible in history. The Greek word for own love used here, eutu. Agapen, is the possessive form, his own, emphasizing the unique, personal and divine nature of this love. Agape, which you might be familiar with, is the highest form of love, defined by self-sacrifice and unconditional commitment. And the Greek word used for still sinners, eti amartolon. The word comes from amartia, which means to miss the mark. Paul is clear God's love is given not when we are at our best, but at our worst, while we are still missing the mark, failing and rebelling. Worst, while we are still missing the mark, failing and rebelling. In this verse, paul emphasizes that God's love is not abstract but is actively demonstrated through Christ's sacrificial death. God's love is not a vague sentiment or a future promise. It is a present reality, proven at the cross. He loved us when we were unlovable and His love is anchored in His character, not our performance. This is grace in its purest form. Number 69 and 70 in our list is Romans 8, 38, and 39.
Speaker 3:Unbreakable love Nothing can separate us from God. Reading from the New King James Version. For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come. Nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus, our Lord. The New International Version reads For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth nor anything else in all all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus, our Lord. The Good News Bible reads For I am certain that nothing can separate us from his love neither death nor life, neither angels nor other heavenly rulers or powers, neither the present nor the future, neither the world above nor the world below. There is nothing in all creation that will ever be able to separate us from the love of God which is ours through Christ Jesus, our Lord. And the Passion Translation reads so now I live with the confidence that there is nothing in the universe with the power to separate us from God's love. I'm convinced that His love will triumph over death, life's troubles, fallen angels or dark rulers in the heavens. There is nothing in our present or future circumstances that can weaken His love. That can weaken His love. There is no power above us or beneath us, no power that could ever be found in the universe that can distance us from God's passionate love, which is lavished upon us through our Lord Jesus, the Anointed One. And the Message Bible reads I am absolutely convinced that nothing, nothing, living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow, high or low, thinkable or unthinkable, absolutely nothing can get between us and God's love because of the way that Jesus, our Master, has embraced us.
Speaker 3:Paul's language here is sweeping, poetic and emphatic. The Greek word used here for persuaded or convinced, pepismai, means to be fully convinced, to have absolute certainty. Paul's conviction is not theoretical, it is experiential and unshakable. The Greek word used here for separate, koresai, means to divide, to put asunder or to cause distance. In other words, paul is declaring that no force, event or being can create distance between us and God's love. Now, the Greek word here for love is one you're familiar with agape. Again, this is the sacrificial, unconditional love of God, the same love demonstrated at the cross, and the Greek term in Christ Jesus, en Christo Iesu. All of this security and love is found in Christ, in a relationship with Him and by faith.
Speaker 3:Consider the true story of Frederick Nolan, a Christian in North Africa during a time of intense persecution. Fleeing for his life, nolan found refuge in a small cave, exhausted and certain that his pursuers would find him. As he lay there, he watched a spider begin to weave a web across the mouth of the cave. Watched a spider begin to weave a web across the mouth of the cave. When his enemies arrived, they saw the untouched web and assumed no one could be inside without disturbing it. So they moved on. Nolan later declared when God is a spider's web is like a wall, and where God is not, a wall is like a spider's web. This story illustrates that nothing, not even the most determined opposition, can separate us from God's protective love. In conclusion, romans 5.8 and Romans 8.38 and 39 together form the heart of the gospel.
Speaker 3:God's love is both proven and permanent. In Romans 5.8, we see the shocking initiative of God he loved us when we were at our worst, sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. This is grace in its purest form Love given, not earned, and mercy shown, not deserved. Romans 8.38-39, then, assures us that this love, once given, can never be lost. No circumstance, power or failure can separate us from God's embrace. His love is not only unconditional but also unbreakable.
Speaker 3:As we walk through the ups and downs of life, let these truths anchor your soul. You are loved with an everlasting love, proven at the cross and secured for eternity. Rest in this grace and let it empower you to love others with the same hope-filled, christ-centered love you have received. Christ is the evidence, the access and the anchor of this love. It is demonstrated through the cross and secured through the resurrection. Let your soul rest in this truth. Today you are fully known, deeply loved and eternally held in the arms of a God who will never let you go. Held in the arms of a God who will never let you go. Friends, in our next episode In Troubled Times, we will continue our look at the best of the best 88 Bible Scripture passages by looking at numbers 71, 72, and 73 in my top 101 favorite Bible verses. We'll look at Nahum 1.7, zephaniah 3.17, and John 16.33. I hope you've enjoyed our time together and I pray you have a mighty moment with God today. Be blessed.
