We pray that you are encouraged and spiritually strengthened, so let's turn our hearts and minds to the Word as we prepare for today's journey of discovery. Here's Dr Bobby with today's Mighty Moment.
Speaker 3:Divine Wisdom. In this episode of Mighty Moment we continue our 31-day journey looking at the best of the best scriptures from the Bible. These are awesome passages that you'll want to remember. These are 88 of my personal favorite passages from the Bible my top 101 verses. The total list of verses is not in any particular order, but the pairings of three for each episode loosely tie together by a theme, but each verse is independently worth memorizing. Contact Mighty Moment if you'd like a copy of my best of the best list.
Speaker 3:In this episode we look at numbers 52, 53, and 54 on our list of the top 101 verses. We will delve into three powerful verses that illuminate the path to divine wisdom Proverbs 2.6, james 1.5, and James 4.7. These scriptures offer invaluable guidance on seeking, receiving and applying God's wisdom in our daily lives. Number 52 on our list is Proverbs 2, verse 6, the source of true wisdom, reading from the New King James Version For the Lord gives wisdom. From his mouth come knowledge and understanding. In the Good News Bible we read it is the Lord who gives wisdom. From him come knowledge and understanding. And from the Passion Translation we read Wisdom is a gift from a generous God and every word he speaks is full of revelation and becomes a fountain of understanding within you. The Message Bible says and here's why God gives out wisdom free is plain spoken in knowledge and understanding. And lastly, from the Living Bible, and lastly from the Living Bible, true wisdom comes from the Lord. It goes beyond information and includes the ability to make wise choices with the information given.
Speaker 3:I'm intrigued with a few key points of this verse. Firstly, that God is the source of wisdom, which means there are false sources of wisdom as well. Secondly, it is something that God is willing to give us and that it is granted or gifted to us, not something we earn, develop or buy. God is willing to impart this precious gift to us. He wants to help us by giving us ability to discern and make wise, righteous choices. And make wise, righteous choices. What comes from the Lord, anything from His mouth, is valuable and true and always helpful. The Lord not only gives us knowledge, but understanding of that knowledge. I can ask ChatGPT a question about trigonometry and it will give me the correct answer knowledge. But understanding what the answer means and the exact manner the answer was derived is a totally different matter. That is understanding. You see, we have such a good God that he not only wants us to have the right answer, but also that we understand why it's the right answer and why it's the best answer. Why it's the right answer and why it's the best answer, and when to appropriately apply the answer.
Speaker 3:The Hebrew word for wisdom used here in this verse is kokmah, which refers to skill, wisdom or shrewdness. It encompasses not just intellectual knowledge but practical application and discernment. The phrase from his mouth emphasizes the divine origin of wisdom, indicating that true wisdom comes directly from God's revelation. Imagine a master craftsman teaching his apprentice. The apprentice doesn't just read books about carpentry. He watches the master work, listens to his instructions and learns through hands-on experience. Similarly, god's wisdom isn't merely theoretical knowledge, but practical insights gained through a close relationship with him. Proverbs 2.6 emphasizes that true wisdom originates from God. It's not just intellectual knowledge, but a divine gift that provides practical understanding and discernment. By recognizing God as the source of wisdom and actively seeking it through His Word and prayer, we can navigate life's challenges with godly insight. Life's challenges with godly insight.
Speaker 3:Number 53 on our list is James 1.5, asking for Wisdom with Confidence. In the New King James Version we read If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. In the New International Version we read If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all, without finding fault, and it will be given to you. In the Good News Bible, but if any of you lack wisdom, you should pray to God, who will give it to you, because God gives generously and graciously to all. And the Passion translation if anyone longs to be wise, ask God for wisdom and he will give it. He won't see your lack of wisdom as an opportunity to scold you over your failures, but he will overwhelm your failures with his generous grace. In the Message Bible if you don't know what you're doing, pray to the Father. He loves to help, and you'll get His help and won't be condescended to when you ask for it. In the Living Bible, if you want to know what God wants you to do, ask Him and he will gladly tell you, for he is always ready to give a bountiful supply of wisdom to all who ask Him and he will not resent it. In the Amplified Bible, if any of you lacks wisdom to guide him through a decision or circumstance, he is to ask of our benevolent God who gives to everyone generously and without rebuke or blame, and it will be given to him.
Speaker 3:The verse begins with an obvious rhetorical question we all lack wisdom and need wisdom. It's like asking a room full of children does anyone like ice cream? So, basically, the Bible begins by saying do you lack wisdom? Of course. So here's how to get wisdom Just ask for it. Not only is this a promise to receive it from God, but that God is going to give you wisdom in abundance, not holding back. God is not going to scold you for not coming to him earlier, but rather be happy. You have asked, and he is a father who loves to help his children. He not only will answer, grant our request, give it in abundance, but also give us wisdom with a smile. So the biggest question after reading this verse would be why exactly are we not asking for wisdom? Well, there may be a hesitation in receiving wisdom if we are not going to use the wisdom that is granted to us. Will our selfish desires fight the wisdom of God, or will we yield to God's insight and instruction? Will we yield to God's insight and instruction? Number 54 on our list is James 4, verse 7, resisting the Enemy, drawing Near to God.
Speaker 3:Reading from the New King James Version Therefore submit to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you. The New International Version reads the Good News Bible says the devil will run away from you. The Passion Translation reads. The Message Version reads so let God work his will in you. Yell aloud no to the devil and watch him scamper. The Living Bible says Give yourselves humbly to God and in the Amplified Bible so submit to the authority of God. Resist the devil, stand firm against him and he will flee from you. The verse says to submit to God.
Speaker 3:The act of submission is basically saying I'm not going to fight the devil myself, but allow God to fight my battle for me. The devil is not afraid of you. What causes the devil to run is the power of the Lord on your side. When we submit to God, we yield to the Lord's power and His indwelling presence. We allow Him to shine through us, we allow Him to stand up for us. We allow Him to fight for us. The devil, once he sees Jesus, knows that he is lost and he does not want to fight, but instead he runs away. So when we are tempted by the devil or challenges arise or any other thing the devil may throw at us happens. Declare to the devil in the name of Jesus, get thee behind me. This is what Jesus told the devil when he was tempted by the devil. There is power in the word of the Lord and in the name of Jesus. There is no need to be afraid of someone running away from you. Side with Jesus and watch the devil run.
Speaker 3:The Greek word for submit means to subordinate oneself or to obey. The Greek word for resist implies to stand against or oppose. These words together paint a picture of aligning oneself with God's authority while actively opposing evil. While actively opposing evil, james 4.7 presents a powerful strategy for spiritual warfare Submission to God coupled with resistance to evil. This verse reminds us that true wisdom involves not only acquiring knowledge, but also applying it to spiritual battles, by allying ourselves with God's will and actively opposing the enemy's schemes. In conclusion, as we reflect on these three powerful verses Proverbs 2.6, james 1.5, and James 4.7, we see a comprehensive picture of divine wisdom from recognizing God as the source of all true wisdom to confidently asking for it and applying it to spiritual warfare.
Speaker 3:These scriptures guide us in cultivating a life of godly discernment and understanding. These passages remind us that wisdom is not merely an intellectual pursuit but a spiritual journey that involves a close relationship with God. By seeking His wisdom, trusting in His generous provision and applying it in our daily lives, we can navigate life's challenges with confidence and grace. Let us commit to continually seeking God's wisdom, asking for it boldly and using it to stand firm in our faith. Friends, in our next episode, god's Sovereign Plan, we will continue our look at the best of the best 88 Bible Scripture passages by looking at numbers 55, 56, 57, and 58. In my top 101 favorite verses, we'll look at Proverbs 16, 9, proverbs 19, 21, and Isaiah 46, verses 9 and 10. I hope you've enjoyed our time together and I pray you have a mighty moment with God today. Be blessed.
