Speaker 3:God's Forgiveness. In this episode of Mighty Moment we continue our 31-day journey looking at the best of the best scriptures from the Bible. These are awesome passages that you'll want to remember. These are 88 of my personal favorite passages from the Bible my top 101 verses. The total list of verses is not in any particular order, but the pairings of three for each episode loosely tie together by a theme, but each verse is independently worth memorizing. Contact Mighty Moment if you'd like a copy of my best of the best list.
Speaker 3:The Bible paints a vivid portrait of God's forgiveness through various metaphors and promises. Today we'll explore three transformative passages from our list of the top 101 Bible verses by looking at Numbers 46, 47, and 48. 1 John 1.9, which offers a faithful promise of forgiveness when we confess. Isaiah 1.18, which uses color imagery to demonstrate God's cleansing grace. And Psalm 103, verse 12, which speaks of separating us from our sins. Number 46 on our list of the top 101 favorite Bible verses is 1 John 1.9, the faithful promise of a complete forgiveness.
Speaker 3:Reading from the New King James Version If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. The New International Version reads that God will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. The New American Standard Version reads God is faithful and righteous. The Good News Bible reads but if we confess our sins to God, he will keep His promise and do what is right. He will forgive us our sins and purify us from all our wrongdoing. The Passion Translation reads but if we freely admit our sins when His light uncovers them, he will be faithful to forgive us every time. God is just to forgive us our sins because of Christ, and he will continue to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. In the Message Version, on the other hand, if we admit our sins, make a clean breast of them, he won't let us down. He'll be true to Himself. He'll forgive our sins and purge us of all wrongdoing. And finally, in the Amplified Bible we read If we freely admit that we have sinned and confess our sins, he is faithful and just, true to his own nature and promise and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness, our wrongdoing, everything not in conformity with his will and purpose. This amazing verse starts out with the word if this incredible promise can be ours, if we activate it, we must do something in order for it to occur. Nothing's going to happen unless we do that thing. We must confess Now.
Speaker 3:Confession is an interesting word. It's more than simply saying I did something wrong, admitting what we did, understanding it was wrong, acknowledging the people we hurt, including God, that we desire to be separated from that sin and for it to no more be part of us and we don't want to do it again. The more specific with God that we can be, the more he realizes that our confession is genuine, authentic and heartfelt. This is not a quick forgive me for my sins which glosses over everything and lumps them all together. While there are sins we may not be aware of, we should come to terms with those things that we have done that we are aware of, confessing those things and actions and thoughts that we have done that are wrong and we know they're wrong.
Speaker 3:The verse has a caveat that we can believe in and depend on God. God is good, god is just, god is faithful. God can be dependent on. He will do what he said he will do. You will be forgiven. It's a guaranteed thing. We can have complete forgiveness. We can take it to the bank.
Speaker 3:So what exactly does God do? Well, he forgives us. That's the technical side, the legal side, if you will. We no longer are being held accountable for that sin. The penalty is removed. Jesus paid that penalty for us. It is no longer on our record. But also on the cleansing side, the emotional heart side, I'm reminded of King David in the Bible when he prayed in Psalm 51, 10, create in me a clean heart, o God, and renew a right spirit within me. You see, god gives us a blank slate and reboots us so we can start again. He forgives us, but he also cleanses us. Number 47 on our list is Isaiah 118, the transformative miracle of divine cleansing.
Speaker 3:Reading from the New King James Version Come now and let us reason together, says the Lord. Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool. In the Good News Bible it reads the Lord says Now, let us settle this matter. You are stained red with sin, but I will wash you as clean as snow. Although your stains are deep red, you will be as white as wool. And in the Passion Translation come now and let's deliberate over the next steps to take together. Yahweh promises you though your sins stain you like scarlet, I will whiten them like bright new-fallen snow. Even though they are deep red like crimson, they will be made white and, in the Living Bible, as freshly fallen snow. Even if you are stained as red as crimson, I can make you white as wool.
Speaker 3:God is so eager to see you cleansed and changed. However, he does not force Himself on you. It's an invitation, similar to other invitations we've seen in the Bible, like taste and see that the Lord is good. God is saying try it for yourself. If we could hear the actual voice of the Lord saying these words, we would hear a loving father pleading with his child, not wanting them to remain in pain any longer. God is asking us to reason this out. Think about it, not run on an emotional response, either direction to or away from God. God says realize your stain and see the wonder of the transformation that I am offering.
Speaker 3:This verse is using contrasting language to encourage the reader. It does not matter how bad the sin is or how grievous it is. God is going to completely wipe it away. It's the devil that tries to get us to believe that our sins are too red to be white. God says no, I will remove the stain A clean, so clean you cannot tell there was a stain ever before. It no longer exists, for it no longer exists. The evidence of it existing does not exist. God completely makes it clean. In Isaiah 118, the Hebrew words for scarlet and crimson colors indicate that these were the super bright red dyes used at that time that were impossible to get out of clothes. If you stained something with these it was permanent, or so everyone thought. But God's saying he can take these permanent stains of sin and make them white, as white as white can get pure snow or beautiful wool.
Speaker 3:Number 48 on our list is Psalm 103.12, the Immeasurable Distance of Divine Forgiveness, reading from the New King James Version. As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. In the Good News Bible as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our sins from us. And the Passion Translation. As far as the eastern horizon is from the western horizon, he has removed our rebellious acts from His presence. And in the Message Version, as far as sunrise is from sunset, he has separated us from our sins.
Speaker 3:In this verse, god is trying to help us understand His type of forgiveness, that it not only forgives, but that he no longer holds it against us. We as humans tend to cling to our sins and carry them around like baggage, like anchors. Our enemies remember our sins to use as ammunition to belittle us. God says my type of forgiveness is so complete I don't look at you any differently from then on. I won't throw it in your face the next time you make a mistake. I won't degrade or denigrate you with your past. God says I'm ready to look to the future.
Speaker 3:The expression as far as the east is from the west means that it is impossible for them to meet, is from the west means that it is impossible for them to meet. Just like nothing can separate us from God's love, there is nothing that can cause God to unforgive a sin that he has forgiven. The Hebrew word for removed is rakach. It's like when you push something really far away. God uses this word twice here once to describe how far east is from west and again to show how far he puts our sins from us. The word for transgressions in Hebrew is peshah, which means our intentional mess-ups, not just honest mistakes. So God is saying he takes our deliberate screw-ups and puts them so far away from us that we couldn't find them if we tried. It's His way of saying that stuff it's gone, completely gone.
Speaker 3:In astronomy, scientists measure cosmic distances in light-years. The distance light travels in one year about 5.88 trillion miles. The observable universe extends approximately 93 billion light-years across. Yet even this unfathomable distance falls short of illustrating how far God removes our transgressions from us. While the visible universe, vast as it is, has measurable boundaries, the separation between East and West is truly limitless. When God forgives, he puts our sins so far away they are completely unreachable.
Speaker 3:In conclusion, these three passages create a magnificent tapestry of divine forgiveness. Tapestry of Divine Forgiveness. 1 John 1.9 grounds this forgiveness in God's faithful and just character, assuring us that honest confession leads to complete cleansing. Isaiah 1.18 reveals the miraculous transformation of our moral staining, where what seemed permanently scarlet becomes purely white through divine intervention. And finally, psalm 103, verse 12, shows us the infinite distance God places between us and our forgiven sins, an unreachable separation that ensures our past can never reclaim us. Friends, in our next episode, rejoicing in the Day, we will continue our look at the best of the best 88 Bible Scripture passages by looking at numbers 49, 50, and 51 in my top 101 favorite verses. We'll explore Psalm 118, 24, romans 15, 13, and Philippians 4, 13. I hope you've enjoyed our time together and I pray you have a mighty moment with God today. Be blessed.
