Speaker 3:

Casting Burdens. In this episode of Mighty Moment we continue our 31-day journey looking at the best of the best scriptures from the Bible. These are awesome passages that you'll want to remember. These are 88 of my personal favorite passages from the Bible my top 101 verses. The total list of verses is not in any particular order, but the pairings of three for each episode loosely tie together by a theme, but each verse is independently worth memorizing. Contact Mighty Moment if you'd like a copy of my best of the best list.

Speaker 3:

In this episode we look at numbers 43, 44, and 45 from our list of the top 101 Bible verses and 45 from our list of the top 101 Bible verses. We'll explore three key passages of Scripture that guide us in casting our burdens upon the Lord Psalm 55, 22, which invites us to release our cares to God. Matthew 6, 33, which directs our priorities, and Psalm 23, 6, which assures us of God's perpetual goodness and mercy. Number 43 in our list of the top 101 Bible verses is Psalm 55.22. Reading from the New King James Version Cast your burden on the Lord and he shall sustain you. He shall never permit the righteous to be moved. In the New International Version Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you. He will never let the righteous be shaken. The Good News Bible reads Leave your troubles with the Lord and he will defend you. He never lets good people be defeated. And the Passion Translation Give your burdens to the Lord and he will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall. The Message version Pile your troubles on God's shoulders. He'll carry your load, he'll help you out. He'll never let good people topple into ruin. And the Clear Word version reads I will cast my burdens on the Lord and he will sustain me. He will not forget those who try to do right. He will never allow the righteous to be moved.

Speaker 3:

I am intrigued with the first word of this verse, the command to cast. We've seen this word before in an earlier verse in our list. Remember it 1 Peter 5, 7. Casting all your care upon Him, for he cares for you. Casting conveys forcefully giving it up, relinquishing control of something God wants us to give Him our burdens.

Speaker 3:

Now, burdens are quite a broad topic. What are burdens? Anything that is holding you back or weighing you down. Jesus invited us to come to Him. All you who are weary and heavy laden. This is an opportunity to have our burdens removed. In order for God to sustain us, we must give Him everything, give it all up. Physically, this cannot happen until we no longer are carrying the weight and God is. Mentally, this cannot happen if we continue to worry or fret or have anxiety about the burden we supposedly just gave to the Lord. We have to give it up. We have to cast all our burdens on Him and he will sustain us.

Speaker 3:

I am reminded of an old Christian song Give them All to Jesus by Phil Johnson. The chorus goes Give them all, give them all to Jesus, and he will turn your sorrow into joy. With the Lord, we only move forward. He will not retreat, he will not fall back. When he takes our burdens, he removes them and we no longer will be plagued by them. God does not use them to haunt or taunt us or remind us later on about them. God is our solid foundation. We will not falter when he is guiding and sustaining us. Even when it seems like we are slipping, his hand reaches down and keeps us up. Psalm 55.22 invites us to release our burdens to God, even those that seem impossible, which opens the channel for His supernatural sustaining power to flow into our lives.

Speaker 3:

Number 44 on our list is Matthew 6.33, the divine priority that puts everything in order. Reading from the New King James Version but seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. The New International Version reads but seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. The Passion Translation. So, above all, constantly chase after the realm of God's kingdom and the righteousness that proceeds from Him, the realm of God's kingdom and the righteousness that proceeds from Him. Then all these less important things will be given to you abundantly. The Message Version reads Steep your life in God-reality, god-initiative, god-provisions. Don't worry about missing out, you'll find. All your everyday human concerns will be met. And the clear word it reads so make God's kingdom and His righteousness first in your life, and all the other things will be given to you as you need them.

Speaker 3:

This verse demonstrates a matter of priorities what is most important to us? It's easy to answer Jesus to this question when asked at church. But when the rubber meets the road, what does our life show? There's an easy test to determine where our priorities lie what are we spending our money on and what are we spending our time doing? Our bank records and our calendars will reveal the truth. What do they show for you?

Speaker 3:

Sometimes our priorities are just out of whack. We're imbalanced. We're pursuing improper goals. Habits and addictions can skew our priorities. Peer pressure can alter our priorities as well. The world wants us to pursue money, power, pleasure, enjoyment, but the truth is, when we pursue God, he grants us all that we need. What is it that we truly need anyway? The true things we need Peace, joy, direction, wisdom, contentment, things that God can give. We pursue God, and all you ever needed will be given to you. In this verse, the Greek word seek zeteo implies continuous, passionate pursuit, not casual interest, and the Greek word first, proton establishes absolute priority, placing this seeking before all other concerns. What we seek is God's kingdom, basileia, his rule and authority in every aspect of our life. Jesus presents not stress management advice, but a revolutionary approach that places relationship with God at the center and trusts Him for everything else. Matthew 6.33 presents a revolutionary approach to living by placing God's kingdom and righteousness as our highest priority.

Speaker 3:

Number 45 on our list is Psalm 23,. Verse 6, the divine promise of perpetual goodness and eternal home. Reading from the New King James Version Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. The New International Version reads Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. In the New American Standard Version Surely goodness and lovingkindness will follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. The Good News Bible reads the Good News Bible reads I know that your goodness and love will be with me all my life and your house will be my home as long as I live. The Passion Translation reads so why would I fear the future, for your goodness and love pursue me all the days of my life. Then afterward, when my life is through, I'll return to your glorious presence to be forever with you. And the Message Bible reads your beauty and love chase after me every day of my life. I'm back home in the house of God for the rest of my life.

Speaker 3:

And lastly, in the Living Bible, psalm 23 is one of the most famous chapters in the Bible. You might recognize the first part of the chapter. It's hard to just select one verse out of this awesome chapter. Certainly, the verse and the whole chapter are worth memorizing. The verse starts out with an assurance this is surely going to happen.

Speaker 3:

A natural consequence of pursuing God is that we find out that he's pursuing us God tirelessly, is pursuing you, us, god tirelessly is pursuing you. He desires you to be saved, blessed, redeemed and enjoy His goodness. No matter what we do, god is there, seeking to guide us, guide us into His paths of righteousness, happiness. Nothing can stop His pursuit and nothing can stop His love. David, who wrote this, is making a decision here as to whose side he is on and will continue to be on—God's side. He has tested the Lord and found Him to be faithful and loving and merciful. He does not want to live anywhere else except with God and in His will. I think of the verse in the Bible, joshua 24, 15,. In His will. I think of the verse in the Bible Joshua 24, 15,. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. I pray. It is yours and my decision as well.

Speaker 3:

The word for goodness, tav, is not just moral goodness, but prosperity, beauty and wellness. The same word was used when God declared creation good. The verb follow, radaf means to pursue, to chase. David uses this term to show God's goodness isn't trailing behind but pursuing us. Psalm 23.6 reveals God's promise of actively pursuing us throughout life and into eternity. We see that God's goodness and mercy are not passive followers but determined pursuers.

Speaker 3:

In conclusion, these three passages reveal a divine progression for handling life's burdens. Psalm 55.22 invites us to the deliberate act of casting our cares upon the Lord, promising His sustaining power in return. This leads naturally to Matthew 6.33, where we discover that ordering our priorities according to God's kingdom, placing His rule in righteousness first, results in all our needs being provided. The journey culminates in Psalm 23.6, and its assurance that God's goodness and mercy actively pursue us throughout our lives, guiding us toward eternal dwelling with Him. Friends, in our next episode, god's Forgiveness, we will continue our look at the best of the best 88 Bible Scripture passages by looking at numbers 46, 47, and 48 in my top 101 favorite Bible verses. We'll explore Psalm 103, verse 12, isaiah 1, verse 18, and 1 John 1, verse 9. I hope you've enjoyed our time together and I pray you have a mighty moment with God today. Be blessed.
