Here's Dr Bobby with today's Mighty Moment.

Speaker 3:

Call upon the Lord. In this episode of Mighty Moment we proceed with our fun 31-day journey looking at the best of the best scriptures from the Word of God. These are tremendous, encouraging spiritual truths that you'll want to memorize. These are 88 of my favorite passages from the Bible, my top 101 verses. Each episode loosely ties together three verses from the list in a common spiritual premise, but each verse is individually special in and of its own right. Contact Mighty Moment if you'd like a copy of my best of the best list. In this episode we'll look at numbers 40, 41, and 42 from our list.

Speaker 3:

Throughout the tapestry of Scripture, god constantly invites us into intimate dialogue with Him when life's pressures mount and uncertainty looms. Three remarkable passages shine like beacons of hope Psalm 50, verse 15, jeremiah 33, verse 3, and Romans 8, 31. Together they reveal a God who eagerly awaits our call, promises deliverance and stands undefeated on our behalf. Number 40 on our list of 101 top Bible verses is Psalm 50, verse 15, which is the divine invitation to call in times of trouble. Reading from the New King James Version. The verse reads Call upon me in the day of trouble. I will deliver you and you shall glorify me. In the New American Standard Version. Call upon me in the day of trouble. I shall rescue you and you will honor me. The message version reads and call for help when you're in trouble. I'll help you and you'll honor me. This verse is a personal invitation to contact the Lord, not from a distant, detached God, but a plea from a loving Father who made us, who cares for us and cares about us. He wants to be connected to our lives. God wants to be involved in every aspect of our life and stands ready to be our aid and assistance, whatever we need, whenever we need it to reach out at any time, but specifically when we're in trouble. The invitation has a promise that God will help us. It's as simple as calling, and the promise to help comes with the assurance that it will be so incredible that he will be glorified afterward. God is like just see what happens, I'm going to blow you away.

Speaker 3:

I also see something else here in the verse that is significant. Christians are not exempt from the storms of life. The verse says in the day of trouble or when you're in trouble. In other words, trouble will come, but we need not fear or get surprised by it or dismayed by it or discouraged by it. Help is ever available to us. All we need to do is ask.

Speaker 3:

The Hebrew word used here in the verse for call is kara. Actually, it appears as the first word in this Hebrew sentence, giving it remarkable importance. In the grammatical syntax it's framed as an imperative verb, a command, a requirement, a mandate from God Himself. This isn't merely a suggestion, but an order Call upon me. The Hebrew word for trouble used in this verse is sra, meaning distressful, tight, cramping, anguish-filled places and times of life. It comes from a root word suggesting everything is squeezing in on us from all sides at once. This opens up the possibility that this trouble encompasses any heartache you might feel or be experiencing at the time.

Speaker 3:

King Hezekiah in the Bible provides a powerful example of calling upon God in trouble. When Assyrian forces laid siege to Jerusalem and their generals sent a threatening letter demanding surrender, hezekiah entered the temple and literally laid the letter before the Lord. He called upon God as the sovereign ruler of heaven and earth, praying O Lord, our God, save us from Sennacherib's hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you are alone, the Lord. Isaiah 37.20. God answered dramatically, dispatching an angel who slew vast numbers of the Assyrian army sending the rest fleeing home. Hezekiah's direct appeal to God in his moment of national crisis perfectly exemplifies the principle of Psalm 50, verse 15. Number 41 on our list is Jeremiah 33.3, which is the promise of a divine revelation.

Speaker 3:

Reading from the New King James Version Call to me and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things which you do not know. In the New International Version Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know. The New American Standard Version Call to me and I will answer you and I will tell you great. And I will tell you great and mighty things which you do not know. The Message Version Call to me and I will answer you. I'll tell you marvelous and wondrous things that you could never figure out on your own. And the Living Bible. Ask me and I will tell you some remarkable secrets about what is going to happen here.

Speaker 3:

This verse addresses a probing question on many hearts Do my prayers go beyond the ceiling? Does God hear me? Does God receive my prayers and calls for help? Will God hear? Will God answer? Does God care? This verse answers with a profound and emphatic yes, yes, yes, yes, god hears, yes, god answers. And yes, god does care.

Speaker 3:

God, in this verse, promises, commits and reassures us that he does hear our prayers and he answers our prayers. Now there are three possible answers yes, no or wait. We must be patient in His response, as His answer and His timing will be perfect, as he knows everything and will do what is absolutely best in response. He not only is going to answer, but he is going to reveal Himself to us and show us insights we could never have imagined. Wisdom from the Lord is priceless. We think we understand our problem, but we do not. We think we understand how to solve our problem. We do not. We only think in human terms and limitations. But God is not bound by those limitations. No, god is not limited by human boundaries of thinking. Not only will God act on our behalf by answering our prayer, we will be mesmerized at how awesome the solution is, speechless as we observe His incredible power and resolution and as he shows us incredible and powerful things.

Speaker 3:

Jeremiah 33.3 takes us beyond prayer as petition to prayer, as a gateway to divine revelation Given to a prophet in prison. This verse reminds us that our most confining circumstances often become God's classroom for supernatural insight. Number 42 on our list is Romans 8.31, which is the assurance of divine advocacy. Reading from the New King James Version what, then, shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? In the New International Version, we read what, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? And the message version. So what do you think? With God on our side like this, how can we lose? And the Living Bible. What can we ever say to such wonderful things as these? If God is on our side, who can ever be against us?

Speaker 3:

This verse begins by asking a question which, in essence, is asking how are you going to react when troubles come? Will you get angry? Will you get frustrated? Will you get defeated and give up? Ultimately, we need to respond as winners, for God, the God, the Almighty. God is on our side and there is no one like God. There is no one smarter than God. There is no one more powerful than God. There is no one bigger than God. There is no one that loves you more than God. Why would I be worried about anything, as God is on my side and he is bigger, smarter and more powerful than anything I will ever face, meaning my victory over whatever is confronting me is assured in the power of Jesus Christ.

Speaker 3:

In the original Greek, the construction of if God is for us implies not uncertainty but established fact. It could be rendered since God is for us, and the word in Greek for in the verse is hyper, indicating being over or above, in a protective sense, suggesting God standing as our defender or advocate. This contrasts with the Greek word against kata, which indicates opposition from below or beneath, suggesting any opposition is ultimately inferior to God's protective stance. The question format who can be against us is a rhetorical device in Greek that expects the answer no one of consequence rather than list of enemies. It's not denying the existence of opposition, but declaring its ultimate impotence in comparison to God's advocacy. Romans 8.31 poses a question that answers itself if God is for us, who can be against us? That answers itself If God is for us, who can be against us? This verse doesn't deny the reality of opposition, but reframes it in light of God's superior advocacy. It transforms how we perceive our challenges, not by minimizing them, but by maximizing our view of God.

Speaker 3:

In conclusion, these three passages we looked at in this episode, psalm 50.15, jeremiah 33.3, and Romans 8.31, form a powerful triad of promise that transforms our approach to prayer and life's challenges. Together they reveal a complete picture of divine responsiveness. We call upon God in trouble. He delivers us and reveals His mysteries, and we stand confident in His advocacy against all opposition. The common thread is God's initiative. He commands us to call, he promises to answer and he positions Himself for us.

Speaker 3:

As we embrace these truths, prayer transforms from desperate pleading to confident communion with an eager God who wants to respond, reveal and defend us. We move from seeing prayer as occasional crisis intervention to experiencing it as constant life support, the vital connection that sustains us through every circumstance. May these verses inspire not just occasional cries for help but a lifestyle of dependent, expectant conversation with our ever-present Lord. Friends, in our next episode, casting Burdens, we will continue our look at the best of the best 88 Bible scripture passages by looking at numbers 43, 44, and 45. In my top 101 favorite verses, we'll explore Psalm 55, verse 22, matthew 6, verse 33, and Psalm 23, verse 6. I hope you've enjoyed our time together and I pray you have a mighty moment with God today. Be blessed.
