Speaker 3:Joy and renewal, we continue our 31-day journey looking at the best of the best scriptures from the Bible. These are awesome passages that you'll want to remember. These are 88 of my personal favorite Bible passages, my top 101 verses. The total list of verses is not in any particular order, but the pairings of three for each episode loosely tie together by a theme, but each verse is independently worth memorizing. Contact Mighty Moment if you'd like a copy of my best of the best list. In this episode of Mighty Moment, joy and Renewal, we will look at God's transformative touch. In our journey of faith we often experience seasons of darkness and struggle, but God's Word offers us profound hope through the promise of joy and renewal. In this episode we will look at three passages Psalm 35, psalm 5110, and 2 Corinthians 517. These passages reveal a beautiful progression of God's restorative work in our lives, from temporal comfort to eternal transformation. Verse 23 on our list of 101 top Bible verses is Psalm 30, verse 5. Reading from the New King James Version For his anger is but for a moment. His favor is for life. Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning. And in the New International Version For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime. Weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning. And in the New American Standard Version, for his anger is but for a moment. His favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may last for the night, but a shout of joy comes in the morning. And lastly, in the Message Version. And lastly in the message version, the nights of crying your eyes out give way to days of laughter.
Speaker 3:My mother was perhaps like yours as a kid and a teenager. When something was stressing me out or I was afraid of something, she would gently say to me in a reassuring tone it's going to be okay, you're going to get through this. This verse is your Heavenly Father reassuring you. Everything is going to be okay. The darkness of the moment may prevent you from seeing to the other side, but God wants you to know that you are going to get through it, you're going to be okay, there is a bright hope and it's going to get better. Don't give up. God, your Creator, your Redeemer, the King of the Universe, the Almighty, the All-Powerful and the All-Knowing, is your friend. This sinful world full of pain and sorrow and hardship, is not and was not His plan. Sin caused God's perfect plan to get temporarily sidetracked. But through the victory of Jesus Christ, a day is coming soon when all things will be restored as he intended. Hold on, friend, this world is not your home. Soon and very soon, things will be made right. Where there is crying now, there will be joy soon. Soon and very soon, things will get better.
Speaker 3:The Hebrew text of this passage reveals profound depths of meaning. The word for favor, ratzon, conveys God's goodwill, acceptance and pleasure toward us. It's not merely tolerance but active delight. The term for weeping, beki, denotes intense sorrow, while joy, rina, specifically refers to a shout of joy or exaltation. This isn't merely happiness, but an outburst of celebration. The contrast between night and morning carries symbolic weight in Hebrew thought, with morning representing hope, renewal and God's faithfulness after periods of darkness.
Speaker 3:Psalm 30, verse 5, reveals a profound theological truth about the temporary nature of God's anger compared to the permanence of His favor. King David, who composed this psalm, experienced a national crisis that resulted from his own disobedience. He had inappropriately numbered Israel against God's wishes, bringing about a devastating plague. Though many thousands died, god mercifully cut the pestilence short when David prayed for forgiveness. David learned firsthand that God's anger is indeed brief compared to his enduring grace.
Speaker 3:The next verse in our list of 101 top Bible verses is Psalm 51, verse 10. Reading from the New American Standard Version Psalm 51, verse 10. Reading from the New American Standard Version Create in me a clean heart, o God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. In the New International Version we read Create in me a pure heart, o God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. In the Message Version In the Living Bible Sin corrupts.
Speaker 3:It decays and deteriorates God's perfect creation. Sin leads to death. Our sins reinforce bad habits and tendencies and develop corrupt thinking. King David from the Bible had done some terrible things. As David considers his failures and fall, I'm sure he could not believe the things he had done and where it ended him up.
Speaker 3:King David, after his grievous sins, he wants to reprogram his brain. He no longer wants those thoughts and temptations. Realizing his corruption, he is asking God to reboot him. He is unable to accomplish this himself. He needs his God and Creator to remake him and to reprogram him. He cannot undo the terrible deeds nor the shame from them, but David no longer wants anything to do with them and certainly does not want to repeat them. Hence he asks God for a new start.
Speaker 3:The Hebrew word for create, bara, is particularly significant as it's the same word used in Genesis 1-1 for God's act of creation. This term is exclusively used for divine creation, something only God can do. It implies making something new from nothing, not merely improving what already exists. David isn't asking for a minor adjustment, but for a complete divine recreation of his inner being and mind. King David wrote this psalm after his grievous sin with Bathsheba and the murder of her husband Uriah. Psalm 51 is the story of a distressed man who has been in the struggle of his life. He is battered and he is broken by his sin. He has lost his way and he is plagued by what he has done. Yet ironically, this moment of complete brokenness becomes David's greatest victory because it brings him to total dependence on God's changing power.
Speaker 3:Number 25 in our list of 101 top Bible verses is 2 Corinthians 5.17. Reading from the New King James Version. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. Old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new In the New International Version. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come. The old has gone, the new is here and the New American Standard Version. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature. The old things passed away. Behold, new things have come. And in the message version now we look inside and what we see is that anyone united with the Messiah gets a fresh start, is created new, the old life is gone, a new life emerges. And lastly, in the Living Bible, when someone becomes a Christian, he becomes a brand new person inside. He is not the same anymore. A new life has begun.
Speaker 3:When we come to the Lord, god not only forgives us, he forgets our sins and chooses to remember them no more. He removes the penalty of death from us and we rest in Jesus' robe of righteousness. He gives us a future as well. He grants us eternal life and hope of eternity in heaven with Him. But beyond all this, at the moment we come to the Lord, god gives us a total restart. The old man is done away with and we are truly a new person in Christ. The devil and your ops will try and remind you of all you have ever done bad and all of your sins, but our response should be to them I'm so sorry for the pain I've caused and the mistakes I have made, but Jesus has redeemed me and forgiven me. I am no longer that person. I am a new person in Jesus Christ.
Speaker 3:The phrase in Christ, en Christo is a favorite Pauline expression, appearing over 160 times in his letters, indicating not merely allegiance to Christ but actual spiritual union with him. The Greek for passed away implies something that has moved beyond or disappeared completely, while become new indicates things have not merely been improved but have become qualitatively new in nature. This isn't renovation, but complete transformation, like a tadpole becoming a frog or a caterpillar becoming a butterfly. When we believe in Christ, a metamorphosis takes place and we become new creatures with the capacity to live in an entirely new dimension of existence. In conclusion, these three verses paint an incredible picture of God's hope and renewal.
Speaker 3:Psalm 30, verse 5, comforts us, reminding us of the temporary nature of our sorrows compared to God's enduring favor. Weeping may last for a night, but joy indeed comes in the morning. Psalm 51, verse 10, moves deeper, revealing our need for divine re-creation of our inner being, something only God can accomplish. And finally, 2 Corinthians 5.17 completes the picture with the radical declaration that in Christ we become entirely new creations. The old has gone and the new has come Together.
Speaker 3:These passages remind us that God's work of renewal is both immediate and progressive. We receive a new identity instantly upon turning to Christ, yet the living out of that identity unfolds over a lifetime. The promise of morning joy, a clean heart and a new creation aren't merely comforting concepts but transformative realities made possible through Christ's redemptive work. As we embrace these truths, we participate in the ongoing story of God's renewing work, finding both present comfort and future hope in His unfailing promises. Friends, in our next episode, divine Guidance, we'll continue our look at the best of the best 88 Bible Scripture passages by looking at numbers 26, 27, and 28. In my top 101 favorite verses, we'll look at Psalm 32, verse 8, psalm 119, verse 105, and Isaiah 30, verse 21. I hope you've enjoyed our time together and I pray you have a mighty moment with God today. Be blessed.
