TITLE: “SPIRITUAL CONTRASTS” (1:07)

COVID CHANGED EVERYTHING (1:09)

Spiritual Contrasts. Since COVID-19 hit the world in 2019 and its major impact began in earnest in early 2020, our world has gone through quite a lot and has transformed in incredible ways. We have gone through things that we would never have thought we would have. Things have changed and we are not the same as before. I am reminded of a few spiritual truths that are in stark contrast to the world in which we find ourselves during the pandemic

LONG LINES AND QUOTAS (1:39)

When COVID-19 first hit, I remember waiting in a very, very long line that wrapped clear around the building just to get into Costco. There were police in the parking lot controlling the crowd. There were limits on some products. I remember going to a grocery store and I could not find any food on the shelves. None, it was all gone. Who knew toilet paper would be so valuable? Our family found ourselves without toilet paper and could not find it anywhere. We made do with Kleenex for a while until a kind friend drove all the way across town to deliver some toilet paper More precious than gold. After the gas pipeline was hacked in 2021, there were some places of the country where there were long lines for gas and many stations even ran out of gas Because of a computer chip shortage, it's become difficult to find a car to rent and you have to get on a waiting list to buy some models of new cars.

5 SPIRITUAL CONTRASTS (2:40)

Let's take a pause and look at five spiritual contrasts. While not a complete list, these spiritual truths stand out during the times in which we live.

CONTRAST #1: DIRECT ACCESS TO GOD (2:52)

Contrast number one… direct access to God. We have direct access to the God of the universe no fees, no membership needed, no special cards necessary. It does not matter which city or state or country you live in. You see, covid-19 affected different places differently and communities responded uniquely and some restrictions and inconveniences were definitely enhanced in some areas. Some countries had more money to respond, others didn't.

With God, we all have the same incredible access to the Lord. The Bible says we can always come boldly before the Lord, (Hebrews 4:16)... At any time. How amazing is it that we can have immediate access to the God of the universe any time… any place… anyone?

CONTRAST #2: GOD HEARS IMMEDIATELY (3:47)

Contrast number two… God hears immediately. While it is true we may find ourselves waiting on the Lord's timing, which is always perfect, He is always accessible immediately, with no waiting, no long lines. God says in Jeremiah 33:3, “Call on me and I will answer you.” Another verse in Isaiah 58:9 says, “Then you will call and the Lord will answer. You will cry and He will say here, I am.” With God you never get a busy signal or have to wait in a long line.

CONTRAST #3: GOD NEVER RUNS OUT (4:25)

Contrast number three… God never runs out. God's grace will never run out. No matter how big the sin or the past mistake that needs to be covered, god's grace is always big enough to completely cover it. You will never get an out-of-stock message or a rain check to deliver in the future. God says in 2nd Corinthians 12:9, “My grace is sufficient for you.” While stores may run out of products because their supply lines are disrupted, God never runs out.

CONTRAST #4: GOD BLESSES IN ABUNDANCE (5:02)

Contrast number four… God blesses in abundance. No quotas with God. He not only wants to bless you… but bless you in abundance (Psalm 23). David says his cup overflows. God blesses with more than enough. God blesses in abundance to remind you that He is God, but also so you can have some to bless others with. Remember to pay forward the blessing of the Lord. I won't forget that neighbor and the toilet paper very soon.

CONTRAST #5: GOD WILL SUPPLY (5:37)

Contrast number five… God will supply your needs. Certainly this has been a time of uncertainty and anxiety for many. There were times where we weren't sure where to find something, or we were looking for something and didn't know where to go and get it. Many who lost their jobs entered a great unknown, wondering how to pay the rent or get food for the table. He will take care of us because he loves us. Rest in his power and providence. David says in Psalm 37:25, “I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging for bread.”

PEACE IN THE STORM (6:19)

In contrast, those who have no hope, those who know God, have a peace during the storm, for they know God will supply what they need. Our God is always accessible, always available, never runs out, always blesses beyond measure and will always supply our needs. Praise the Lord for spiritual contrast. Remember the goodness of God if you find yourself waiting in a long line or run out of TP.
